1. How to install Joomla 1.0 with cPanel

In this tutorial we will be installing Joomla 1.0 using cPanel and the cPanel file manager.

  1. Begin by uploading the Joomla tar.gz file to your website.
  2. Browse to the file on your harddrive.
  3. Double click the file to upload.
  4. Click Upload to upload the file.
  5. You can now see your file has been uploaded
  6. Click the file name to see a list of options for the file.
  7. We want to extract the file.
  8. A new window will open verifying the extracted files.
  9. Now point your browser to the site/folder you have uploaded Joomla to.
  10. Check the settings for your files on this page. The most important is to make sure all of the appropriate files/folders are writable.
  11. If you make changes to your settings click Check Again to refresh the page. When you are ready to install click Next.
  12. This page has a copy of the GPL license. Click Next to continue.
  13. On this page we will input the database settings. We need to go back to cPanel to create the database.
  14. Click Manage MySQL to create the database
  15. Type the database name and click Add Db.
  16. You database has been created. Click Go Back to create the database user.
  17. Enter the username and password and click Add User.
  18. Your database user has been created. Click Go Back to associate the user with the database.
  19. Select the appropriate user and database and click Add User to Db.
  20. The user can now access the database. We can now switch back to the Joomla installer.
  21. Enter the database info you just created.
  22. You can change any database import setting you need now.
  23. Click Next to continue the installation.
  24. Click OK to confirm your database settings.
  25. Enter a name for your site.
  26. Click Next to continue the installation
  27. Enter your email address and the password you want. Joomla creates a default password automatically.
  28. If you want to change the permissions settings you can do that here.
  29. Click Next to continue the installation.
  30. Joomla has now been installed. We need to go back to the file manager to delete the installation folder.
  31. Click the installation folder.
  32. Delete the folder.
  33. The folder has now been deleted. We can switch back to Joomla.
  34. Click View Site to see your newly installed site.
  35. Here is your newly installed Joomla site.
